Perú Negro’s exhilarating show of frenzied drumming and slave lament is back.
The 39-year-old Afro-Peruvian ensemble will showcase its new album, “Zamba Malató,” Saturday at New York City Center, on W. 55th St. between Sixth and Seventh Aves., as part of a massive 46-city tour.
“It’s our biggest U.S. tour ever,” says bandleader Rony Campos, 43, son of the group’s late founder Ronaldo Campos. “Afro-Peruvian music is increasingly popular ever since Susana Baca won a [Best Folk Album] Latin Grammy [in 2002].””*
