It was the first time a woman, Hillary Clinton, and an African-American, Barack Obama, had a chance not only to win the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, but actually have a real good shot of getting elected president.

Left out of the equation was the ethnic vote, particularly that of Hispanics, the largest minority group in the country. Neither Iowa nor New Hampshire has a sufficiently large Hispanic population for its votes to make a dent in the two contests.”*
