Bucking the trend of Spanish-language papers to free distribution, the nation’s largest Hispanic daily, La Opinion in Los Angeles, raised its cover price from a quarter to 50 cents Monday.
The increase is the first since 1979.
It’s not clear what the effect of the price increase will be on La Opinion’s circulation, which has been growing in the face of an industry-wide shrinking of sales, especially single-copy.
