Irving ISD foresees drop in enrollment – (can you guess why?)
Tagged: Dallas, deportation, student, Texas
The district’s enrollment on its peak day this fall on Sept. 25 was up slightly from the year before, to 33,189.
But it began dropping quickly soon after. Between the peak and last Thursday, the district lost about 774 students, about 300 more than during a similar period the year before.
Fear generated by the city’s policy of turning over arrested illegal immigrants to federal officials for deportation and a code enforcement crackdown on deteriorating apartments are believed to be partly responsible for the drop in enrollment.”*
