“When national Democratic party officials voted to move Nevada’s 2008 presidential caucus to early in the selection calendar, one of the reasons was to highlight Hispanic issues and get Hispanic voters involved in the process.

That goal has been achieved to a large extent, but it is also a double-edged sword.

“Both the Democrats and the Republicans talk about immigration, but obviously they have different positions,” said Mario De La Rosa, a Hispanic activist and editor of Reno’s Spanish-language newspaper.”*
