“U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida walked away from his chairmanship of the Republican National Committee with nearly $25,000 in salary for his 10-month tenure, according to federal election records.

The $24,780 payment was made to Martinez on Nov. 28, more than a month after the first-term senator resigned from the post. The former chairman had made history as the first Hispanic chairman of the RNC.”*
