The Northeast has gone through many changes. A once predominantly Italian neighborhood, it is now experiencing a rapid growth in its Hispanic population. As a result of the increase, the area faces new needs and challenges as it struggles to define itself and develop.
Cielo Fernandez, head of a Hispanic community support and education program at the Mattie Rhodes Center, explained that “At the same time that the community is growing and developing, we are facing so many risk factors for that same community.
