Veronica Lopez was born in Lima, Peru, and first came to the United States when she was 12 years old. She said it only took her about a year to learn English, but it would take her several more years to learn that she loved broadcast journalism.
After speaking to Congress about immigration and education when she was 17 years old, Lopez said she loved reading the newspaper articles written on the event.
