“Richard Villasana, known as The Mexico Guru, will give a keynote address on Leadership in the Global Economy for College Students” at the Leadership Retreat for the University of Houstons Academic Achievers Program. The talk, hosted by the Center of Mexican American Studies, will take place at Camp Allen in Navasota, Texas on February 16, 2008. A former student at the University of Houston, Villasana points out that with over 108 million consumers, Mexico is one of only a handful of countries in the world with an economy of over $1 trillion. While many U.S. companies struggle to do business in Mexico, Hispanic students see the opportunities and insist on having the right preparation to succeed in business in both Mexico and beyond.

According to Mr. Villasana, author of “Insider Secrets How to Do Business in Mexico,” one key to success in Mexico is that companies need to be aware of the importance of cultural differences. Its not only that Mexicans speak Spanish. They have different ways of looking at work and business.” Companies are often unaware that Mexican business practices are more formal than those in the U.S. This ignorance can limit or destroy a companys chances of success in Mexico by immediately creating a poor impression with prospective Mexican distributors or business associates.”*
