“When Rep.-elect Bob Latta (R-Ohio) found himself neck and neck with his Democratic opponent, Robin Weirauch, in internal polling, his campaign turned to what has become a reliable staple for Republicans lately: talking tough on illegal immigration.

Latta’s campaign aired an ad proclaiming his opposition to amnesty and driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants and threatening to cut foreign aid to countries that encourage illegal immigration into the country.

And both Latta and the National Republican Congressional Committee followed suit by accusing Weirauch of supporting government-subsidized health care for illegal immigrants. “*
