Knowledge is Power!
A collection of Hispanic media veterans has joined together to launch Mio.TV, an ambitious multimedia desktop application aimed at bilingual U.S. Hispanics that aims to meld basic Internet services like email and instant messaging with social networking, online video and gaming–all in a single, Web browser interface. A private beta version of the site was unveiled during a press event held at the GE Building in New York on Dec. 11, with the public version scheduled to go live in late March.
Mio.TV might be described as a combination of YouTube, Facebook, Microsoft Office and Skype. The site allows users to view and share videos, create profiles, make voice-over-IP phone calls, manage their emails and even create documents in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, among other features. The vision for Mio is nothing less than “shaping the future…and fulfilling the promise of the Internet and the dreams of ten years ago,” said Manuel Garcia-Duran, Mio’s chairman and CEO.”*
