“Former Milwaukee Ald. Angel Sanchez has launched a bid to unseat Ald. James Witkowiak, which could set up the third consecutive race between the two.

In 2000, Sanchez, then a political newcomer, defeated Witkowiak, who had served eight years, becoming the first Hispanic elected to a seat on the council. Four years later, Witkowiak won the seat back, topping Sanchez by a margin of 53% to 47%.

Witkowiak, a funeral home owner, is chairman of the council’s Licenses Committee.”*
