A contributor to Democratic politics accused of pretending to be a lawyer didn’t finish law school in Mexico, according to his transcript, but his lawyer said he is still authorized to practice law in that country.
Mauricio Celis, 36, has been indicted on felony charges of perjury, theft, falsely holding himself out as a lawyer and impersonating a public servant. The perjury indictment accuses him of lying about graduating from law school.
Celis has a controlling interest in the CGT Law Group of Corpus Christi even though he is not an attorney. Texas law prohibits anyone from owning a controlling interest in a law firm unless he is a licensed lawyer.”*
