Mexican kids risk death to get into U.S.

Taking a closer look, we realize that the shoe once belonged to a child. It’s a small black heel, the kind you’d wear to a wedding ceremony. The shoe is dusty and faded from the sun. Judging by its size, we figure its owner couldn’t have been older than 13. She is nowhere to be found.
This eerie discovery is part of a disturbing trend unfolding in the Mexican desert. With more and more families being separated by the increasingly tough American crackdown on illegal migrants at its southern border, children have begun crossing the treacherous terrain alone.
It’s a trip that can easily become fatal. The children are too small to carry all the food and water they need for the days-long journey, meaning starvation and dehydration don’t take long to set in.”*
