“Hundreds of colorfully garbed matachines descended on the George R. Brown Convention Center on Sunday to dance their devotion to the Lady of Guadalupe.

The annual event drew more than 3,000 people and dance groups from across the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston in advance of Wednesday’s feast day.

“It is wonderful, wonderful,” said Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, who celebrated an afternoon Mass, “but not totally unexpected for Our Lady of Guadalupe.”"*
