Ethics debated in the reporting of illegal immigrants

“The question — to report or not to report — has been circulating on the Internet since the debate. One Latino blogger called it “proverbial can of worms.” A contributor to the Huffington Post, a popular leftist blog, wrote that NPR’s line of questioning was “dangerous,” not “provocative.” Mark Zwick, who along with his wife runs Casa Juan Diego, a Houston immigrant shelter, called the question “absurd.”

“I don’t think (citizens) should turn them in,” Zwick said. “They should give them a helping hand instead. I think they should take some responsibility as citizens to help fellow human beings. These people have been integrated into our neighborhoods and to our schools and to our work. They are not to be treated as criminals.”"*
