The Cutler Majestic Theatre Pulse Series is thrilled to bring tango in all its sizzling and seductive glory live on stage. Tango—Argentina’s gift to the world—is one of the most alluring and exciting dance forms, evoking sensuality and intrigue, lust, raw energy and knife-edge precision. With sold out performances in New York and Los Angeles, Estampas Porteñas, Buenos Aires’ most acclaimed tango company, will make its Boston debut with their intoxicating Tango Fire—a journey from the red light district of Buenos Aires, to the glamour of the Roaring Twenties, into the world of contemporary ballroom dance. This colorful production features a quartet of brilliant young musicians, ten passionate dancers and one lustrous singer performing the music of the legendary Astor Piazzolla and other great tango composers. With Tango Fire, Estampas Porteñas delves deeply into the dance form that is the heart and soul of Argentina. Performances are Friday Jan. 11 at 7:30pm (press night,) Saturday Jan. 12 at 8pm and Sunday Jan. 13 at 3pm. Single Tickets are $25 - $70. Estampas Porteñas was founded in Buenos Aires in 1996 by the distinguished Argentine ballerina and choreographer, Carolina Soler. Beginning her career in classical ballet, Soler was well known and widely celebrated for her dazzling portrayals of traditional classical ballet roles. In Estampas Porteñas she returns to the dance form that is the heart and soul of Argentina. In its first year, Estampas Porteñas toured China performing over 60 successful shows. On its return to Argentina, the company performed at the Cultural Centre General San Martin, enjoying popular and critical acclaim being described as “… dazzling the audience with talent, seduction and beauty”. In the same year the company created and performed Musica en Buenos Aires commissioned by the Government as a gift to the city. Estampas Porteñas has performed at festivals around the world including the Caribbean Festival, the Havana Festival of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, Recoleta Viva Festival in Buenos Aires and the Beloruss Festival. The Company toured Australia and New Zealand in 2003 and April & May 2005 the company toured Australia, Singapore & New Zealand and Tango Fire debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.The Company toured South Africa (March/April), the UK (Aug/Sept) & USA (Sept/Oct & Nov) in 2006.
The dancers include Nelson Celis and Yanina Fajar, Pablo Sosa and Mariela Maldonado, Cristian Gallardo and Betina Botana, Andres Sautel and Celeste Medina, and Cristian Mino and Jorgelina Guzzi. Under the musical direction of Gabriel Clenar (Pianist), musicians include Hugo Satorre (Bandoneón), Marcelo Rebuffi (Violín), Gerardo Scaglione (Double Bass) with vocals by Javier di Ciriaco.
