“Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori is the newest “Madrina” of the Latino Commission on AIDS,” announced Dennis deLeon, President of the Latino Commission on AIDS. Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori visited the offices of the Commission in New York on December 1st, World AIDS day and received a commemorative sun pendant, which officially recognizes her as a supporter of the organization and a partner in the fight against AIDS.
“It is important to me and the Miss Universe Organization to show our commitment and solidarity with those impacted by HIV/AIDS, especially on World AIDS Day, today I took the HIV test to encourage all communities that it is better to know your status,” states Miss Moya.
“The fight against HIV and AIDS and the health care needs facing our community get more challenging every year,” said Dennis deLeon, President of the Latino Commission on AIDS. “I applaud Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori for taking this action to join our cause and promote the HIV test as an important step in the area of prevention and education. She joins a group of vital supporters, all of whom are beacons of hope for a future without AIDS.”
“We celebrate our partnership with the Miss Universe Organization in the area of AIDS awareness in our communities,” said Guillermo Chacon, Vice President of the Latino Commission on AIDS. “Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori is committed to the fight against AIDS. It is an honor for us to name her as our ‘first Japanese Madrina’.”
Miss Universe 2007 Riyo Mori joins India, the “Reigning Queen of Salsa,” and super pop singer Paulina Rubio among others as a madrina. Madrinas and Padrinos of the organization are those individuals that commit themselves to promote prevention and education related to HIV/AIDS. The role of Madrina/Padrino in the Latino/Hispanic culture is an extended and important family member on whom a family relies for support.
