Crash won’t keep immigrants from taking bus to Mexico

“They were typical of the dozens of Mexicans who regularly step off the bus at a Waukegan shopping center filled with cowboy hats and corn snacks. At least twice a day, every day, Tornado buses stop at the Belvidere Discount Mall along Illinois Highway 120 as they take passengers from Mexico to Milwaukee.

A fatal crash last week cast a spotlight on the popular buses, which have long been a link for Latinos between burgeoning immigrant communities such as Waukegan and their hometowns in Mexico. For more than a decade, Tornado buses have crisscrossed the American South and Midwest, catering to a Spanish-speaking clientele by playing Spanish movies and stopping at Mexican restaurants along U.S. highways that lead south to the border.”*
