A vacant corner in south-central Mesa will soon be home to two big-name stores that target Hispanic consumers, a sign of the Valley’s changing demographics and the increasing economic clout wielded by non-White shoppers.
La Curacao, an electronics retailer, has announced that it will start construction on a 100,000-square-foot store on the northwestern corner of Stapley Drive and Southern Avenue in early 2008, with a target opening date about one year from now.
In addition, Mesa City Council members have given early approval of a liquor license for Pro’s Ranch Market, a grocery chain that also caters to the Hispanic population. “*
