“KIRA Inc., the preeminent military base facilities maintenance and construction contractor, today announced its president and CEO, Carlos Garcia, was recognized by Hispanic Business Magazine as Entrepreneur of the Year. Garcia, a highly recognized entrepreneur in the defense industry, took top honors in both Heavy Industry and overall Hispanic Business Entrepreneur of the Year categories. In addition to his ownership of KIRA, Garcia has investments in eight additional defense contractors.

“After more than 20 years of providing facilities maintenance services to our clients, I’ve learned to create companies that are efficiency machines, saving the government money while providing the best in people, technology, resources and knowledge,” said Garcia. “Our clients have recognized the value KIRA creates and the result is KIRA’s phenomenal growth.”

Born in Cuba, Garcia became a citizen of the United States and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981. Afterwards, he earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Columbia University in 1983. In 1987, he founded KIRA, and after 20 years of service to the defense industry, the company has a backlog of work in excess of $500 million.

Garcia is active in charity, supporting several causes individually as well as through KIRA. He is the founder of the Garcia Family Scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania. KIRA is the principal sponsor for the non-profit One World Running organization. That charity collects hundreds of thousands of pairs of previously owned running shoes and ships them to runners in developing countries.
