“A viewer wrote in asking me whatever happened to Tejano radio. Tejano is a unique home-grown music style. It blends the conjunto accordion and guitars of Northern Mexico with American pop-music influences.

What you get is slick, high-tech polkas, cumbias and ballads. The Tex-Mex mix appeals to Mexican Americans who grew up in South Texas. At least it did.

I was the program director of the first full-time Tejano-formatted radio station in Central Texas. We called the format “Tejano Hits.”"*
