Proposed fence could split town – Granjeno

Before U.S. founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, before war turned Mexico’s northern territory into South Texas, there were three Spanish land grants making up what is now the tiny Rio Grande Valley town of Granjeno.
Like many such grants, the land holdings of Granjeno have been eroded by waves of legislation, seizure and foreclosure. Not even half the original acreage remains. Descendants of the original families can’t all fit into the 87 homes inside the city limits.
But they say the properties are part of their identity.”*
