“After he was shot in the head and left for dead in May, Latin pop star Fabio ”Estefano” Salgado discovered his financial manager had disappeared with at least $2.8 million of his earnings, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday.

The suit does not spell out that Jose Luis Gil had any involvement in the attempted murder of Estefano, producer of hits for Latin music heavyweights like Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony and Shakira.

But the suit does say alleged gunman Francisco S. Oliveira “has extensive ties to Gil, and Estefano employed this individual at Gil’s suggestion and insistence.””*
