“The National Foundation for Credit Counseling is working to help Spanish-speaking homeowners hang on to their properties as the credit crunch clamps down on holders of subprime mortgages.

A survey by the Silver Spring nonprofit credit-counseling organization found that 15 percent of Hispanic homeowners did not know their interest rates. Others encounter language problems that interfere with their financial literacy.

The new program combines a Spanish language Web site, www.nopierdastuhogar.org, with live help from Spanish-speaking counselors. The Web site address means “Don’t lose your home.”"*
