Richardson stresses experience, diplomacy – (in Iowa)

“If presidential races were decided on resumes alone, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson would stand a strong chance of winning in 2008.

Along with his nearly five years of executive experience as governor, the Democrat has served as a congressman, ambassador to the United Nations and U.S. energy secretary since breaking onto the national stage in 1983 with his first election victory.

However, it’s been his successes in dealing with some of the world’s toughest leaders — Iraq’s Saddam Hussein, Cuba’s Fidel Castro, despots in Sudan and North Korea — that has elevated his political stock at a time when diplomatic and foreign relations skills are a hot commodity.”*
