“Goya Foods announced that it is donating 500,000 thousand pounds of food to the people of the Dominican Republic who have been afflicted by severe flooding due to Tropical Storm Noel. The donation is being undertaken by the collaborative efforts of Goya Northeast, Goya Florida, Goya Puerto Rico and Goya Dominican Republic and will be facilitated through UNICEF and other organizations. Tropical Storm Noel hit the island of Hispaniola last week and is responsible for causing extensive damage due to flooding and high winds resulting in over 100 fatalities on the Caribbean island, leaving thousands without basic services and shelter.

Goya Foods has a 36-year-long history in the island as well as with the Dominican community within the United States. “The presence of Goya Foods in the Dominican Republic is allowing the company to respond swiftly to the most immediate needs of the victims of the storm,” says Frank Unanue, President of Goya Florida, “We are deeply committed to assisting our employees and friends in the Dominican Republic and urge other corporations and community members to engage themselves in the many efforts underway to help the victims of this natural disaster.”

Goya Foods, which has a well-established record of responding to natural disasters around the globe, will insure that dry goods such as canned beans and canned meats among other items are distributed to those in hard hit areas. “First and foremost, Goya Foods and its employees extend its deep condolences to the many families affected by this disaster. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and we hope that this donation will help in stabilizing the situation in the Dominican Republic,” says Bob Unanue, President of Goya Foods, Inc.
