“For Cuban singer Olga Guillot, the “Queen of the Bolero,” the Lifetime Achievement Award she will receive Tuesday at the Latin Grammies is recognition of a lifelong passion for music and performance.

“This award is a tribute to a 63-year artistic career,” Guillot, 84, told The Associated Press. “For an organization to recognize that is a great reason to feel beautiful and happy.”

In a recent interview at her home in Mexico City, the artist known for such hits as “La gloria eres tu,” “Mienteme” and “Tu me acostumbraste” told of finishing second in a singing contest along with her sister at the age of 13 — an experience that turned applause into something of a “drug” for her.”*
