“Gabriel Garcia Marquez has nothing on the magical-realism-shocked universe that is Guanabee.com.

Inca hallucinogens, nearly dead dictators, quinceañeras gone wild – they’re all vying for headlines at Guanabee, a 4-month-old, English-language aimed at young Latinos who take their news with a shaker of snark.

Created in a kind of Gawker.com-meets-The Onion style, Guanabee promises its visitors “spicy coverage for the Latino in you.” But don’t confuse the tag for a commercial, or some zesty attempt to pitch sports cars, or erectile dysfunction medication to America’s well-courted, exploding Hispanic market, a market with a buying power estimated at $860 billion.”*
