“Latino leaders in Dover today announced their opposition to extending aldermen’s term in office from two to four years, saying residents of the Morris County community haven’t yet had a chance to discuss the idea.

At a late-morning news conference in front of town hall, they urged citizens to vote “no” on the town’s Nov. 6 ballot question addressing the issue, calling the referendum “undemocratic.”

While the leaders, who in July formed the activist group Dover Citizens United for Responsible Government, say they are not opposed to the general idea of four-year terms, they argue this is not the time for such a change.”*
