“Just in time for open enrollment season, a new website from Aetna (NYSE: AET) is making it easier for many Hispanic consumers to learn about Aetna’s broad range of products, services and network of providers. Aetna.com en Espanol also provides general information and tips about health benefits to help Hispanics choose benefits plans that best serve them and their families.

“More than 32 million U.S. residents speak Spanish at home,(1) and many Hispanics prefer to receive information about health benefits in Spanish,” says Raymond Arroyo, Aetna’s chief diversity officer. “Aetna.com en Espanol gives Spanish-speaking consumers the option of accessing information, tools and services in the language with which they are most comfortable – whether that’s Spanish, English or both — so they can make informed decisions and keep themselves and their families physically and financially healthy.”

The new site includes information on health care basics, health and wellness, products and plans, and health tools. The site also includes a glossary of common medical and health terms. It is written in everyday language to help members understand plan materials and descriptions. The site also has information on disease management programs and suggested questions consumers can ask their health care providers to help make health care visits more productive and positive. More information and forms will become available on the site over time.

Through the site members can also access the English-version of Aetna Navigator(TM), Aetna’s password-protected member website, where they can compare evidence-based outcomes or look up claim and other member-specific information. They can also download claims forms and use DocFind(R) to find participating doctors and hospitals, including those who speak Spanish.

“The new website is one of the ways Aetna is empowering Hispanics with clear information to help them more effectively navigate the health care system,” Arroyo says. For example, medical and plan summaries and other materials are currently available in Spanish, and Aetna is recruiting multilingual participating providers and sales and service staff. In addition, Aetna and the Financial Planning Association recently launched two new health benefits resources for Hispanics — PlanifiqueParaSuSalud.com and Guia de Beneficios de Salud Para Dummies. The site and guide extend Aetna’s Plan for Your Health public education campaign to help Spanish-speaking Americans make smart health benefits and financial planning decisions throughout their lives.

Arroyo says Aetna is increasing and service to Hispanic members in other ways as well, including providing new culturally based products and working with local organizations and investing volunteer and financial resources to improve the lives of Hispanics.
