One of Walt Disney World’s first Hispanic costumed characters, “Handy Manny,” has been added to the lineup at Disney-MGM Studios and is in line for a bigger, bilingual presence in 2008, when the park brings out a new show along with its other attractions and new name.
In the Disney Channel’s animated show, Handy Manny, the lead character “Handy Manny” Garcia is the best handyman in his town of Sheetrock Hills. On the show, the character speaks in English and Spanish, teaching English-speaking children simple Spanish words and phrases by putting them into real-world context. The character also carries talking tools and teaches the importance of teamwork, problem solving, community and friendship, as well as aspects of Latino culture.”*
