A major national study came out the other day that should relegate the worst assumptions about the assimilation of Hispanic immigrants to the dustbin of flat earth theories.

The Pew Hispanic Center survey, as reported in this newspaper, “found that only one in 10 Latino immigrants remains highly attached to his or her homeland based on such transnational activities as remittances, phone calls and visits they made.”

Translated into regular English, it means the longer immigrants are in this country, the more likely they are to lose contact with their native countries.”*
