Chavez street gets green light; Klein sees red – Lubbock, Texas

“A plan to put a marker recognizing Atzlan Park as the former home of migrant workers was shot down by a majority of the City Council on Thursday, the same day the council approved renaming part of Canyon Lake Drive after Cesar E. Chavez.

Councilman Todd Klein, who proposed putting the marker at the park, said its 4-3 defeat by the council was a “petty” move.

The migrant history of the park, off Buddy Holly Avenue near Interstate 27, was one of the primary reasons many in Lubbock wanted to rename Canyon Lake Drive in honor of Chavez, a migrant worker advocate.”*
