Amboy, IL - Mr. G. G. García, author of Mercedes. Recuerdos de Ayer announced the activation of his website at www.prairieyaqui.com effective this date.

The book is a local history, growing up in Mercedes, Texas along the Rio Grande which divides the two countries, the U.S. and Mexico. Mr. Garcia’s maternal grandparents crossed into this country before the advent of the law on immigration. They were refugees fleeing a civil war, the Mexican Revolution of 1910.

His father was a Villista. The book is about a seldom written history about the poor who toiled to build agricultural empires, worked to clear the land, and made transportation, commerce, and other industries trive and develop along the border.

Mercedes is 100 years old this year. It just celebrated its centennial. It was incorporated in 1907. G’.G.’s family were pioneers. The author also records his experience migrating north to states like Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, east Louisiana and Mississippi, and west to California.

“With the monologue about immigration, I wanted to put a face on the issue. I suspect the debate is more about power and victory at the polls than the broken system of immigration. It is that also. But the Democrats have already captured both chambers of Congress. The Republicans are extremely vulnerable on this issue. And the Democrats see this as the road to the White House in 2008,” said Mr. Garcia.

“Illegal immigrants from the Spanish-speaking world: Mexico, Central and South America comprise half of the estimated illegal immigrants in the United States. The other half are from Eastern Europe, Asia, and Africa and the Middle East. But when you hear about illegals, they are only from Mexico. The terrorists came through the Canadian border. Yet, you do not here talk of a Wall being built there, do you?”

The book is priced at $24.95 plus tax, shipping and handling. The details on how to order and about the author are found at www.prairieyaqui.com
