“Hammered by severe financial problems, Pharmed Group, a medical supply distributor founded by two Pedro Pan brothers that became one of the nation’s largest Hispanic-owned companies, announced Tuesday it is downsizing and may have to file for bankruptcy.

It was a dramatic turn for a company that started in a tiny storage room and grew to annual revenue of almost $600 million. Carlos and Jorge de Céspedes, who sometimes drive matching Bentleys, have been major philanthropists in South Florida. Florida International University named its arena Pharmed to thank them for their donations. They are also part-owners of Chispa restaurants in Miami-Dade County and the Charlotte Bobcats professional team.”*
