“Counties in North Carolina and the state as a whole need to have a broader discussion of the economic impact of their Hispanic populations versus their fiscal impact.
So says Dr. James H. Johnson Jr., a William Kenan Rand Jr. distinguished professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
While the political dialogue connected to immigrants — illegal or documented — often centers on the fiscal costs, their economic contributions are far greater, Johnson said.”*
