National Hispanic Corporate Council Annual Member Meeting Examines Corporate Social Responsibility, Marketing and Executive Development

“The National Hispanic Corporate Council will hold its annual member meeting in Chicago, Illinois, October 22-24, 2007, hosted by Hyatt Hotels Corporation. The members will confer on topics covering corporate social responsibility, diversity, government relations and executive development. The highlights of the conference include NHCC’s inaugural Marketing Think Tank, Executive Development Workshop and presentations on two study findings, “NHCC’s Community ” and Monster’s, “Recruiting Hispanics in the Dot.com Age.”

Corporate Social Responsibility

Chris Pinney, Director, Executive Education Programs for Boston College Center for Corporate will be the keynote and discuss the evolutionary changes of corporate social responsibility. Ralph Reid, Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, Sprint Nextel Corporation and Executive Director of the Sprint Foundation will share Sprint’s best practices on CSR efforts in the Hispanic community. Diversity, another aspect of CSR, will be assessed by a panel comprised of Alex Vasquez, Associate General Counsel, Office of the General Counsel, Legal Administration Division for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; John M. Esquivel, Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer/Associate General Counsel from Shell Oil Company; and Horacio Gutierrez, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Corporation will discuss the role of the general counsel in proactively driving diversity both internally and externally.

Marketing Think Tank

NHCC will offer a pre-conference Marketing Think Tank Workshop for members and invited guests to be held at DePaul University, October 22, 2007. Presenters include representatives from Allstate Company, Ford Motor Company, McDonald’s Corporation; Procter & Gamble and Turner Broadcasting. The practicum, directed by Barraza Consulting Group will be held for marketing professionals and will discuss market segmentation, customer experience and distribution channels.

Executive Development Seminar

Dr. Samuel Betances of Souder, Betances and Associates, a diversity and executive development expert will lead a half-day seminar. He will focus on competencies for Hispanic professionals to thrive and lead in corporate America. His presentation will include the key elements in creating a personal development plan, the pitfalls to avoid and goals that can be achieved. The workshop will include a practical exercise and round table discussions.

Additional Topics

Susan Gonzales, Vice President Comcast Foundation and Senior Corporate Director Federal and External Affairs; Emilio Gonzalez, Executive Director, Public Affairs and Communications for Communications Inc.; and Art Ruiz, Director Corporate Communications and External Relations for Companies will share their insights as government affairs professionals. NHCC will offer findings from its Diversity Benchmarking study commissioned by Shell and participated in by NHCC member corporations. Nancy Marks, Director of Marketing, Diversity and Inclusion for Monster Worldwide will share results of their research on “Recruiting Hispanics in the Dot.com Age” conducted by Monster and Harris Interactive.
