State Rep. Puente won’t seek re-election – Texas
Tagged: TexasPosted on: October 18th, 2007“State Rep. Robert Puente, dean of the Bexar County legislative delegation and chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, won’t seek re-election to the position he’s held since 1991.
“I loved every single session. … But, frankly, it was time to let go,” said Puente, a Democrat who represents a broad swath of Southeast Bexar County. “I think it’s time to give somebody else a chance.”
He faced two ominous possibilities: a fight in next March’s Democratic primary and losing his chairmanship in the aftermath of an expected battle in 2009 for House speaker.”*
