Knowledge is Power!

“Kevin Alberto Sabio is a contributing writer at Blacktino.net. We at NAM are pleased to welcome Blacktino.net to the ever-widening sphere of ethnic media in the United States.

I had previously written about this issue before, with plans on making this a series of articles. I ended up getting sidetracked a bit, covering other issues in my writing. With the climate the way that it is between the two communities, I felt that it was imperative to readdress this issue.

I feel that my perspective is a unique one on many different levels. On the one hand, it was the location where I grew up and who I got to grow up with. As I’ve stated before, I feel very fortunate to have been born and raised in New York City. Being a ‘melting pot,’ I got the opportunity to be around people of many different nationalities and spiritual persuasions. I grew up with other Latinos on my block, and was classmates with them all throughout my academic career. My friends were from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Panama, and many other places throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.”*
