High demand for bilingual election judges in Kane County, Illinois

“The Kane County Clerk’s Office actively is using outreach to find more election judges.

County Clerk John Cunningham said Monday he is putting together an advisory committee to find ways to comb the community for more Election Day help in the precincts. That committee, headed up by clerk’s employee Joe Gonzalez, will focus on bilingual election judges.

“The problem is not so much interpreting the ballot,” Cunningham said. “It’s the person who comes in (to a polling place) and is in the wrong place, and we have to explain to that person how to get to the other place. We have enough trouble doing that sometimes in English.”"*
