“Activists and government agencies are joining a national effort this week to get more area Hispanics to take the threat of HIV and AIDS seriously, beginning with a health fair Saturday in east Orange county.
Oct. 15 marks National Latino AIDS Awareness Day, a campaign led by several advocacy organizations to bring the issue to the forefront.
While blacks account for most HIV cases in Central Florida, Hispanics have the highest rate of new cases. State figures show that blacks and Hispanics represented about 61 percent of the region’s HIV patients as of 2005, despite being less than 30 percent of the population at the time.”*
