“I have to pinch myself,” Ruiz said. “It has not been an easy road. I definitely hit some big bumps.”
At 30, Ruiz is back in El Paso after a 12-year absence and is now navigating her first year in Texas Tech University’s three-year residency program in pediatrics.
Ruiz is young, bilingual, female and eager to specialize in pediatrics, a branch of medicine in which severe shortages abound in El Paso.”*
