After numerous guest spots on HGTV and DIY Network, Kathy Cano-Murillo, The Crafty Chica, has landed her own glittery webisode series on LifetimeTV.com titled “Crafting With the Chica”. The first of 20 episodes launched October 12th on the Home and Crafts section of the popular women’s network site.

A new segment debuts every Wednesday at www.lifetimetv.com/lifestyle/home-crafts/portrait/crafting-chica

Known for her use of intense colors, freeform collages, and her catch phrases of “Peace, love, and glitter” and “Crafts, drama, glitter” – each week Cano-Murillo brings viewers into her world for an upbeat four-minute dose of hipster crafty fun. Segments include everything from stenciled desk fans and dream journals to shadow boxes and soap making.

“I call these projects “gateway crafts”, jokes Cano-Murillo. “They are all super easy, fun and highly addicting – and best of all, they will leave a lasting impression. I wanted to show projects that people would see and then say, “Wow, I can do that right now!”

The concept of the show came about in 2005 from Rosemond Perdue-Cranner of Bungalow 3 Productions, when she saw an article on Kathy in Working Mother Magazine. The series was shot in Kathy’s home in August. Production for new epsiodes begins next month.

The series is just one thread in the fabric of her career. She makes a line of Chicano Pop Art home decor and jewelry items that were recently sold at Target’s Red Hot Shop. She founded the website CraftyChica.com , where she shares clever craft projects every week with her audience (2 million per month). She is also known for her blog, Diary of a Crafty Chica, where she chronicles her adventures in the craft industry. Cano-Murillo is the author of six art and creativity books, her most recent “Crafty Chica’s Art de la Soul” (Harper Collins, $19.99). She is currently working on her seventh craft book, to be published by Random House/Potter Craft in spring 2009, and her debut novel by Grand Central Publishing will be released in Summer 2009. She is a syndicated craft columnist for The Arizona Republic and Gannett News Service.

The Crafty Chica product line will debut in spring 2008.

She is addicted to glitter and high gloss varnish!
