USHCC Corporate Relations Director Named as ‘Hispanic Woman of the Year’ by UMOS – Silvia Perez
Tagged: Canada, family, Hispanic Chamber, latina, Mexico, USHCCPosted on: October 11th, 2007“Silvia Perez, Corporate Relations Director for the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), has been named by the United Migrant Opportunity Services (UMOS) as its 2007 “Hispanic Woman of the Year.” Perez’s selection by UMOS was based on criteria that included level of responsibility, commitment to the Latino community, and overall accomplishments. The award is being presented at the UMOS Hispanic Awards Banquet taking place October 13, 2007 in Milwaukee, WI.
“We are proud to have community-conscious individuals such as Silvia in the USHCC family,” said USHCC President and CEO Michael L. Barrera. “Her local community work coupled with her national corporate work is an invaluable asset in helping corporations in their role as responsible citizens.”
Perez, a native of Guanajuato, Mexico, joined the USHCC as Corporate Relations Director in May of 2007 following her departure from UMOS. While with UMOS, she played a vital role in increasing corporate participation in the Hispanic community on both the local and national levels. Through her work, UMOS grew in national recognition and established a strong corporate partnership network.
“It is an honor to be recognized by UMOS as the Hispanic Woman of the Year,” said Perez. “Being recognized by a prestigious organization such as UMOS, and by my peers is a testament to my hard work growing up as an immigrant in the U.S.”
The UMOS Hispanic Awards Banquet is an annual event honoring the contributions of Wisconsin Hispanics to their communities. Nominations are submitted to an awards committee, which presents the awards for Hispanic Man of the Year, Hispanic Woman of the Year, Hispanic Youth of the Year, and Hispanic Family of the Year.
