“Lorain - The setting was much different 50 years ago, when Puerto Ricans went door to door in South Lorain selling $10 stock certificates to start a club.

Jobs were plentiful, cultural traditions were strong, and the need for a place to combat isolation and celebrate community was great.

More than 1,000 people turned out for the dedication of the Puerto Rican Home Club in 1957. On Saturday, 200 people will gather to honor one of the area’s oldest Hispanic clubs. (Tickets are no longer available.)”*
