“Now the Escondido Chamber of Commerce wants to reach out to Latino-owned companies such as Garcia’s paint shop, plus businesses ranging from mortgage lenders to chiropractic offices.

The chamber’s new Latino Business Committee held its second organizational meeting yesterday over pastries and coffee. Two dozen entrepreneurs decided to begin meeting monthly and draft a mission statement. They said they also want to address cultural barriers that could keep the group from recruiting more members.

Modeled after a similar Latino group created by the Vista chamber last year, the committee will focus on helping businesses grow and mentoring Latino youth. Committee members may join the larger chamber now or in the future.”
