“Director Carlos Reygadas said in an interview that he hopes to win an Oscar nomination for “Silent Light,” Mexico’s entry in the foreign film category, but that the award might be overvalued.

“It would be a very welcome prize and I’d be thankful, but one has to be careful about overvaluing things just because they are well-promoted, or promoted by powerful people,” Reygadas told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

He thanked the Mexican Arts Academy for picking the film to compete in the category, even though it wasn’t filmed in Spanish.”
