“Q: My parents came here, legally, from Mexico about 50 years ago. I have a Latino surname and can speak Spanish fluently. However, for 99 percent of my daily life, I use English. Why, then, do I get phone calls and receive ads from companies either with a healthy dose of Spanish or entirely en espanol — such as the one from a bank that says ¡Aqui los pantalones los llevo yo! (I wear the pants around here!).

Do companies have such little respect for me that they automatically assume I don’t know English? Why would/should I do business with such companies? What should my response be in the future?”
