Stopping the violence: Program helps immigrant husbands adjust to U.S. – Framingham, Massachusetts
Tagged: Brazil, family, MassachusettsPosted on: October 8th, 2007“After the murder of Carla Souza and her 11-year-old son Caique allegedly at the hands of her husband Percy Andreazi felt he had to do something to help his fellow Brazilian men prevent violence and abuse.
“We cannot allow that to happen again,” said Andreazi, a former physician in his native Brazil who works as a mental health counselor at Wayside Youth & Family Support Network. “We need to help men at risk before they commit violent acts, kill themselves or destroy their families.”
That’s how Men Against Violence, Andreazi’s brainchild, was born early this year. Funded by the MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation, the program offers help to prevent and reduce family conflicts by looking at the roots of violent behavior and risk factors among Brazilian immigrants.”
